6 Work Appropriate Lipsticks for Indian Skintone and How to Choose one that suits you!

Some lucky people get to wear their hair anyway they like, or put on MAC Impassioned to work.
I don't know 'some lucky people'. So for everybody else-

Q. What does anyone look for (or should look for) in a "work appropriate" lipstick?
A. A lipstick that

  •  Isn't in your face bright/ dark, or something that doesn't grab more attention than your work, yet brightens up your face and your day/ or your drab workplace and keeps you looking polished and pretty all day!
  • Something that lasts pretty much all day, or at least half your day at work. You don't want to be caught retouching that lipstick in a hurry, on your desk before submitting whateverthefigitis to your boss. Yes?
  • Something that sits comfortably on your lips. Not too gloopy, sticky or dry.
  • Something that your comfortable with, meaning- you wont keep running your tongue over your teeth  (while smiling with your mouth closed and nodding and almost missing (what might be something important) whatever's being said by your colleague) wondering if you got some lipstick on your teeth. (Happens to me a lot!)
  • Anything more, and you're hoping for too much.

The lipsticks mentioned above, do pretty much all that and would suit most Indian skintones.
Except for maybe Maybelline Plaza Pink. I've tanned and am a NC 42 in MAC and it's a pale mauve-pink nude on me. Washes me out in the pictures compared to reality and might wash anyone darker out.

You could check out the Colorbar Velvet Matte range for affordable, comfortable, long lasting lipsticks in a wide range of colours. The Maybelline ColorSensationals come second since their lasting power fades in comparison. MAC Amplified Finishes and Mattes are brilliant for comfort and longevity. If you don't mind retouching a couple of times, MAC Cremesheens (Fanfare/ Crosswires) are great too.
* You could play around with eye makeup. Like just kajal/ Just eyeliner/ Just kajal & mascara / eyeliner & mascara with a strong lipstick (as strong as your allowed to go). To a thickly applied eyeliner (pic above) and kajal with a pale lipstick. It might not seem like much, but it does change the look a lot!

What are your favourite lipsticks to wear for work?

  1. Why you so pretty girl that all lipsticks look lovely on you??? And you write so well too!!!
Revlon Colourburst Soft Rose is a very pretty work appropriate colour which brightens the face and adds colour without being too "in your face". Estée Lauder Double Wear lipstick in Stay Mauve is another fab colour and it really stays looooooooong.

    3. But buttt I want it anyway! :P You know, I kind of like the fact that it would stain. So I wont feel weird about the lipstick leaving my lips in strange patches.
