Dear Lakme Pop Tints,

I see how cute like a crayon you look in those ads. And Kareena Kapoor, how cute she looks! Like she just ate an orange chuski! Goes with the weather and her clothes too.
See there? I said chuski. Because I expected you to understand. You're Indian, no? Which gaddaar (traitor) Indian doesn't know what a chuski is? Raise your hand!
*no one*!
*awkward silence*

You know what else Indians are?
Indians are - not fond of spending money. At least not obnoxious amounts of money for sad little amounts of product.

Seriously?! 800 rupees for 2 grams of a crayon?! Revlon is not even an Indian brand, learn something from them! 2.7 grams (don't make that face! 0.7 marks extra and Miss Revlon came first!) for 600 rupees!
You're a drugstore (equivalent) brand, love. And a local one at that. You must really understand how you hurt mommy when you make these unreasonable and nutty, bordering on lunatic demands!

I ignored you when you tried to sell a kajal (a KAJAL!) for 600 odd bucks! I humoured you even when you started selling your nailpolishes at 150 rupees. But this?! Especially when I really wanted to try you out in hopes that you might actually be better than your foreign counterparts and tell the world about you! But I'm disappointed already.

So no. I won't indulge you. I won't buy you. I don't care how great you might be, because I'm pretty sure I will like your regular Satin Enrich line of lipsticks for a fraction of the cost more anyway! Plus I feel that you're behaviour will keep getting worse if you're not checked this time! I wont care about you here on. I'll try not to mention you (when I'm making references to someone who's completely lost it/ being absolutely unreasonable!) but I can't promise. It's hard to come across such nut-cases everyday, na.

And while we are at it, let me just say that your packaging isn't that pretty either! There! I said it! *Hides face and wipes a tear* Your older sister, Satin Enrich might be a plain Jane but is much smarter (pigmentation wise), (pocket) friendly and seems much nicer than the brat you seem to have become! Now don't start with "we're different products yada yada yada..!" I'm so pissed, I don't give a hoot right now! So shoo!

(I'm going to sound like a broken record, but) You're an Indian, drugstore equivalent brand and I don't see how we're (in India) expected to pay something that would get us full sized lipsticks from high end brands like Elizabeth Arden. 200 Rupees more, and a lot of other brands included. I really, really feel ripped off just reading your price tag.

But remember, just because you and I aren't talking right now, doesn't mean that I'm going to be jaani dushman (mortal enemy) with the rest of your family. There's a little something brewing between me and a certain #23 something!

BTW Readers, in case you're interested, here's Corallista's review on it. I don't think I'll review it, definitely not any time soon (never say sever, right?!). It feels like a good old friend who's gone completely bonkers, messed up bad and really pissed me off and I won't want to try it right now even if it fell into my open palms randomly from the sky; if and when I am walking on the road, randomly.

Disclaimer: The views expressed in this post are mine. Please note that this is not a review of the Lakme Pop Tints. I haven't ever used this product and I'm not trashing a product based on it's quality/ how it fares. Nowhere in this post am I saying that it's a good product/ bad product. It's only me ranting on about the pricing here (which is not something that you might be bothered about. It could be too little, or too much in your opinion). I'm not asking you (the readers) to like or hate a product based on what I've written in this post. I hope and take that you will all make an informed, smart decision on your own.
That being said, this is not an open letter to Lakme India either. I'm not questioning them/ their credibility and I'm not demanding any answers. This was just something I felt, this is my space and since I had nothing better to do right now, I decided to post this. This is not the question of our national security and I don't expect this to be treated as seriously!
Phew!

Photo less post. Sorry!

  1. I hope LAKME reads this and realize that raising the prices of their products so high is not going to bring profit for their brand. I would rather spend 200rs extra on that 800rs and buy a mac lipstick rather then a pop tint. I loved the orange shade in that pop tint but good thing is that u can dupe that color in a much cheaper, affordable price.

    1. I'm so glad I'm not the only one thinking this! Plus 'tints' aren't supposed to have (don't have) lipstick level pigmentation. So why so much drama? Rs 150 Lipbalm. Rs 250 lipstick = Brilliant combo @ Rs 400!

    2. Ever since they started raising their prices I'v stayed away from Lakme lol.

  2. i totally agree with u! 800 is a bit too much! i did buy their kohl ultimate at that exorbitant price n i would b honest n say its worth it but frankly, the eyeconic for 200 bucks is also great! so, why so much price hike lakme?
n yes would rather buy a mac lippie, n im just very happy with my revlon stains at 600 :)

  4. Couldn't agree more Ikya .. I would rather buy a Clinique Chubby Stick or MAC lipstick with just Rs 200 more.. I never bought anything from their Absolute range just because of the prices + the quality wasn't worth spending..

Way to go girl!!!!!We all wanna buy stuff from our phoren brands and always are in awe of their products bt if i have to speak about my country's well known drugstore brand to my american youtube friends i have nothing to say because of the horrible price that they charge us for something which is inspired by a fellow phoren brand ... sob sob... the price of the crayon is a total rip off.. i rather buy 3 enrich satin lipsticks than this.. :/

  7. totally agree with you. if lakme thinks that foray into luxury brands can be had simply by carrying an obnoxious prize tag, they need to get their basics right

    1. Hi Blue! Welcome here. :)
You're so right. I mean,I really hope that Lakme does better, and grows. But what's annoying is that they're ripping us off! Get out of India, and make more money there if you have to man! Stop looting your own country!

  8. Ikkkkyyyyaaaaaaa......U ROCK!!!!

Most of us Indian girls (ok women too) feel exactly the same way about Lakme's pricing. But what I really love is the way you've expressed yourself here, in Hinglish. I tell u again girl, u could give serious competition to Anuja Chauhan if you wish...mwah!

oh and also... about lakme...all my life i had never been allergic to lipstick and one fine day lakme aquashine gave me crazy blisters all over my lips and from then on started my lipstick allergy (to any and all lipsticks and glosses).... *sob*
now my only relationship with lipstick is looking at each other with extremely sad wala puppy eyes!!

P.S. ur name is so cute Ikya!!

    5. Hi Shrreya!! Thank you so, so soo very much for not being silent any more! :D
Oh God, so sorry about the lakme aquashines not working for you! Try some medicated chapstick for a while/ go to a dermat, you could probably then take your relationship ahead, first base, second base, third base. Home run! woo

Thank you again! :) It's pronounced Eye-kya! How cute is that now! :D

  9. I have very mixed feelings about the product, tbh. I hate the price. Even the nail paints in the pop tint collection are priced at 250 bucks & I feel they are overpriced. However I do feel that the pop tints have better colors than the Revlon ones. But all said & done, even I may not end up buying these. Better to get a MAC lippie.

    1. I swear I had mixed feelings earlier, but then I realized I was actually very pissed off! :P
I agree they might have better colours than Revlon's. (But I just saw the pink one Ankita reviewed and liked it. I din't even wish to see what else they had after seeing the 800 rupee price tag). That's them, understanding what the Indian woman today wants! But they conveniently forgot that the Indian woman or any body for that matter, doesn't want to get ripped off either! I'll get a MAC too! Hi5!

  13. Ikya...You're the best!! Loved every bit of your write up! The colors are really nice but 100% agreed it's not the price you'd expect from an Indian drugstore brand...I mean they should know better but it's simply a rip off! And I totally agree with your point of view on the Lakme Absolute Kohl...600 bux?? Too much! Too much & Too much.....I might as well treat myself to MAC...And Great write up again..

  16. I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY agree with you!

It seems like no one wants to be The ELF of USA, in India here!

Same goes for colorbar too.. The quality may be good, it may be worth the money but seriously.. By no means I am "The Girl's Got Everything- Alia Bhatt of SOTY" :|
